Half-deaf (which isn't an advantage in music listening!!) history graduate with a knowledge of far too much about the sewerage system in 1830's Norwich.I beg you not to judge me, I will listen to anything once, twice if it hits a note and more if i like it. These songs have shaped my 37 1/2 years so far...

1) Homeward Bound by Simon & Garfunkel
A song from my childhood years, i could have chosen any number of S&G's songs but this kinda sticks out mainly due to the harmonies which are fantastic

2) I am the Resurrection by the Stone Roses
The perfect track to end a great night at the Waterfront (indie club in Naaaridge!!) in the mid 90's....

3) I Should've Known by Aimee Mann
Lead in song on the first cd i ever bought, a woman who still produces stunning music 20 years later.

4) Winter by Tori Amos
Perfection by the best female songwriter of my music listening lifetime

5) Remedy by Little Boots
Guilty pleasure alert!!! (You what?) Well, its just an all out good pop track - everyone has a guilty pleasure track don't they!!! I've got several!! Was a choice between this and Freak Like Me by Sugababes...

6) Ashes by Embrace
My favourite song by my favourite band of all time.. still gives me tingles listening to it! Ah the mighty Embrace.. what more can i say, i love these guys and still sing my heart out to their tracks whenever i hear them. Apparently they have finished their 6th album and is ready to be released. Just waiting for their record company to get their arses in gear and release it. When they do release it and tour i may have to stalk them round the country, seeings as its been 7 years since their last release...

7) Breathe (A Little Deeper) by Blameless
The obscure choice, a fab song by a band who produced an amazing album in the mid 90's then disappeared all too quick

8) First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes
Such an emotive song by the best songwriter of the 2000's.. "im wide awake, its morning" is as close to a musically perfect album as there is.

9) Common People by Pulp
Just as close to musical perfection as you can get. Jarvis Cocker is a lyrical genius and this song just hit a note when released. I did see them at Glastonbury in '98 on their "This Is Hardcore" tour (I went there the 4 years between 97 & 2000)... they were fab that night, really sleazy sounding which i don't think went down too well with most of the crowd but i found them mesmerising. Must say i prefer the hardcore album to Different Class to be honest! As for this years festival, i must admit i would have been disappointed with the line up. Primal Scream, KT Tunstall, The Stones and Vampire Weekend would have been the only must sees. Last time i went was in 2000...guess it would have changed immensely since then. I would still go again though!

10) Lucky Man by The Verve
The song i want played at my funeral, kinda sums up my life i guess.

  1. Love Common People by Pulp, this would definitely have been in my top 15! And The Waterfront - haha - an amazing place back in the 90's!

    1. You would have more than likely seen Steve and Ellis there in the mid 90s. I know I did. Every single Saturday...
